My Before & After With Roy Teeluck

hairroyFinding a great hair stylist is not easy. In fact, many of us regularly pay for bad haircuts and don't even know it. But getting that one great cut could set you on the road to hair happiness.

Admittedly I’m not a hair person. I hate blowing my hair dry, I hate getting my haircut, highlighted, and I even hate washing it. Most days my hair is in a ponytail and that’s the way I like it. But for those times when I must shed my favorite yoga pants and look presentable, I have to battle the hair.

My latest hair goal was to stop hating my hair and get a fabulous cut, one that would start me on the road to fabulous. I’m growing my hair out and want to have that long, flowing Hollywood look. Since I’ve been so focused on losing baby weight my hair has taken a back seat, way in the back. It's long, thick and frayed. It's been months since my last highlight and my hair is simply a hot mess.

I came across one of those fabulous flash sales on Gilt, and bought a chance to sit down in the styling chair of New York City based Roy Teeluck. The $210 cost was reduced from Teeluck’s normal fee of $350. I thought, “what the hell,” It’s the year of me… new body, new skin, new hair, new look. Teeluck offered his services to only a few lucky women in Washington, D.C. and I was one of them.

I became familiar with Teeluck after featuring some of his work like Up-Do 101 on my website. The British born stylist has tussled the tresses of divas in Paris, Los Angeles and at his home salon in New York.

During my consultation Teeluck looked at my hair with mild amusement as it really just looked pitiful. He told me my hair was very damaged and needed to be shaped. Shaped? Apparently when you get the right shape, something that can only be achieved with a great cut, your hair falls right into place. With a little work and proper shape maintenance your hair stays healthy and just looks better.

With the precision of a surgeon, Teeluck casually cut away inches of damaged hair and snipped the old shape that has been holding my hair back.

AFTER

One hour later and I have my new shape. The real mastery of his cut can be seen in the side view. The layering looks effortless. Teeluck promises that in 4-weeks my hair will have that Hollywood look I’ve been craving. Next time I go to the salon I'll remember to wear a little makeup.
