Product Review: L'Oreal EverSleek

300Hair straightening, smoothing and anti-frizz products line store shelves and I've tried just about all of them. So will this latest addition to the already over-flowing shampoo market leave us frazzled?

It was Jennifer Lopez's new commercial for L'Oreal's EverSleek that caught my eye. Of course I'm always on the look out for something that will tame my dry, damaged and color processed hair, but it was "Jenny from the block" who sold me on my next beauty purchase.

After seeing that commercial I went straight to Drugstore.com, ordered the EverSleek Intense shampoo, conditioner ($6.99 each) and the Frizz Taming Creme Serum $8.99.

I have been impressed with L'Oreal's EverPure (for color treated hair) line, so this was an easy leap for me to take.

300-2

There are two versions of the EverSleek shampoos and conditioners:

1. Intense for Frizzy and Unruly Hair

2. Repairative for Chemically Straightened or Damaged Hair

L'Oreal calls this line their Sulfate-Free Smoothing System™

  • Silicone-Free
  • 48 Hour Frizz Control
  • Natural Botanicals & Oils

So let's cut to it!

DAY 1:

My Hair is long, wavy, frizzy, color treated and thick. It also takes a long time to dry. I tried the EverSleek Repairative shampoo and conditioner and was happy with the lather, the rinse and the smell. Afer towel drying my hair I used the Frizz Taming Serum and then anxiously whipped out the blow dryer. I didn't immediately notice any difference. I had a few fly aways but everything looked normal. When I started styling my hair however, I did notice that my hair looked pretty good. I used a hot curling iron and hairspray to create a more smooth look. That night my husband actually commented that my hair looked different. He NEVER says anything about my hair!

DAY 2:

Because my hair is so dry I don't like to wash my hair two days in a row but I had a plans that night so I had to do it. So that I could really get a feel for my Day 2 hair, I waited until the end of the day to shampoo again. On Day 2 I noticed that my hair retained the straightening and styling from the night before. It still looked good.

THAT NIGHT:

I received several compliments on my hair! It may be because people are so used to seeing me in a ponytail or it may have been the EverSleek. Needless to say, my hair kept its style and look throughout the night.

DAY 3:

My hair felt great. Looks good in a ponytail.

DAY 4:

I usually wake with a frazzled mess of hair but this morning my hair still looks fairly sleek.

RESULTS:

My hair definitely didn't have that glossy, smooth look that J. Lo has in the commercial-- but I think we all now that is most likely due to technology. That said, I really do like this hair system and I enjoy the way my hair looks when using it. Has it made that much of a difference? I'm not really sure yet-- but I am going to continue to use it and find out.

BUY IT or LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF?

For a total price of $24 for 3 products you can't go wrong if you just want to try this product. I'm happy with it and would definitely recommend it to friends. However, after weeks of use I realized it's not the shampoo for me. My hair is dry, frizzy and I color it. Overall the shampoo did not help me maintain the sleek look that I was trying to achieve. So now what? Moroccan Oil Shampoo is what I'm trying now. Stay tuned for the review.
