East Coast Preppy Goes Chic
By LushClick
In the 80’s needlepoint belts were all the rage. Girlfriends made them for their boyfriends. Moms made them for their sons. These dedicated women toiled for hours to create the ultimate preppy fashion symbol. To this day men, especially on the East Coast, wear them with pride. Now women are putting down the needles and picking up the belts for themselves. Smathers and Branson, a company started in 2004 by two young East Coast guys, have revived the preppy trend by adding women to their clientele. Formerly college roommates, they've recently launched a fantastic line of women's needlepoint belts with hand carved horn buckles. The belts sell for $165.00 and come in ten different designs.
