When I discovered I was pregnant with my first child I did what many women do—I bought baby how-to books, naming books and exercise DVDs. I poured through everything looking for a direction, advice and know-how. Absorbing all of the information was fun and I enjoyed it. Of all of the advice I read-- the most intriguing to me was the information on weight gain and weight loss after the pregnancy.
Aside from having a healthy baby I think weight gain/loss is what many women worry about. It was definitely on of my biggest concerns. At the time one of the hottest baby books was The Girlfriends' Guide To Pregnancy. It was supposed to give you the real scoop on childbirth and pregnancy. Having done this three times now, I can tell you it did not live up to its promises. It was also from that book that I adopted the worst advice ever! I don’t remember it word for word but the gist about exercising and weight gain was just to forget about it. The thought was… you’re not going to want to exercise so forget about it. That was all I needed to hear or read.
That advice was the biggest enabler to my weight gain. I essentially gave up all fitness activity and become a blob. The pattern continued through each pregnancy. This all added up to a scale-tipping event for me. The lack of exercise left me unfit and unmotivated. While I gained a normal amount of weight with each pregnancy I didn’t lose it. So with each baby I got fatter and fatter. To be fair, friends and family all over dish out similar weight advice—did they all read the same book? No, I think it’s just what people tell you to make you feel better or help you rationalize everything.
Three pregnancies later... I’m facing a whopping 50 to 60 pound weight loss challenge. I’m determined to do it (I think) but it is not going to be easy. I blame myself for allowing a stupid book to have so much influence over me—it’s my own fault. I should have burned that book-- instead, it went to some other unlucky woman at a garage sale.

How does the appropriate furniture help boost productivity? There are two key elements to consider: functionality and comfort. Function should constantly come first, as only functional furniture can assist maximize the productivity of employees. While it would be good to have trendy and rev Ray Ban Wayfarer olutionary chairs to furnish the office with, these pieces would be useless if they cannot help the staff accomplish their targets.
I was too shocked to know what to say to this; but in any case, the old woman suddenly looked very alert, because a man was just walking past me toward the entrance. She stood partway and gave him several bows with her hands on her knees and told him, " Oakley Frogskins Welcome!" When he'd entered, she put herself back down on the stool and stuck her feet out again.
"Why are you still here?" the old woman said to me. "I told you we don't have any Satsu."
"Yes, you do," said the Ray Ban Wayfarer younger woman across the way. "Your Yukiyo. Her name used to be Satsu, I remember."
"That's as may be," replied the old woman. "But we don't have any Satsu for this girl. I don't get myself into trouble for nothing."
I didn't know what she meant by this, until the younger woman muttered that I didn't look as if I had even a single sen on me. And she was quite right. A sen-which was worth only one hundredth of a yen-was still commonly used in those days, though a single one wouldn't buy even an empty cup from a vendor. I'd never held a coin of any kind in my hand since coming to Kyoto. When running errands, I asked that the goods be charged to the Nitta okiya.
The younger woman stood up from her stool and walked across into the Tatsuyo. I heard her climbing the stairs inside. Finally she came back down and said:
"Yukiyo has a customer. When he's done, someone will tell her to come down."
The Ray Ban Wayfarer old woman sent me into the shadows on the far side of the door to squat where I couldn't be seen. I don't know how much time passed, but I grew more and more worried that someone in the okiya might discover me gone. I had an excuse for leaving, though Mother would be angry with me just the same; but I didn't have an excuse for staying away. Finally a man came out, picking at his teeth with a toothpick. The old woman stood to bow and thanked him for coming. And then I heard the most pleasing sound I'd heard since coming to Kyoto. "You wanted Oakley Frogskins me, ma'am?" It was Satsu's voice.
